The problem is that if, say, Spain recognizes a Palestinian state within 67 borders, then the Palestinians can lobby the Spanish government to impose trade sanction on Israel comes into compliance with the official position of the Spanish government. This is the difficulty. It's not impossible to defend against diplomatically, but it just puts Israel at a great disadvantage and constant friction with the Europeans. Which is the Palestinian goal.Avigdorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05008730229882004376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15627892.post-38984181505439604442011-05-30T19:03:25.550-04:002011-05-30T19:03:25.550-04:00True, by the end of her piece, every is not tied u...True, by the end of her piece, every is not tied up into a neat package, but she does go a long way towards taking the dread out of September.

We need more articles to further clarify these issuesDaled Amoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17646808702899584547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15627892.post-75633953177629939592011-05-30T16:45:37.702-04:002011-05-30T16:45:37.702-04:00While Ms Kushner's piece is logical, there are...While Ms Kushner's piece is logical, there are some problems.

First of all the statement:
A state must have (a) a permanent population; (b) a defined territory; (c) government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states.

When Israel declared itself independent in 1948, it specifically left (b) out of any official paperwork because Ben Gurion knew war was coming and that the final armistice borders would be those of the new state, unless he declared that he was holding by the 1947 borders in which case Israel would be stuck with those. So Abbas et al could do the same thing.

However, all this is bizarre for another reason: Arafat declared an independent state in 1988 in front of the UN GA in Geneva. Didn't change anything then, why would it now?

As for international laugh: Hah! A law is only as effective as the people looking to enforce it and in the case, the West will be making up rules as they go along.Garnel Ironhearthttp://garnelironheart.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
