A year ago, Israel took military action against the "Gaza flotilla" in international waters, which resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, including one American citizen. In addition, ten Israeli commandos and more than 20 passengers were injured in this tragic incident. In order to avoid another confrontation this year, we urge all parties to practice maximum restraint and avoid violence.
From a letter from 6 Congressmen to Secretary of State Clinton (hat tip: Z Street)
No one expects Congress to march in lockstep in favor of everything Israel does, but one would hope that when they disagree, what they say makes sense.
Unfortunately, 6 Congressmen didn't get the memo:
- Representative Dennis Kucinich (OH-10)
- Representative William Lacy Clay (MO-1)
- Representative Sam Farr (CA-17)
- Representative Bob Filner (CA-51)
- Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC)
- Representative Barbara Lee (CA-9)
Ignored is the fact that the blockade is in accordance with international law--the fact that it is in international waters in no way takes away from that legality.
The 'civilians' killed were associated with IHH, a Turkish group with ties to terrorist organizations.
Most ridiculous, they suggest that "in order to avoid another confrontation this year, we urge all parties to practice maximum restraint and avoid violence."
Apparently, it never occurred to them to simply recommend to the flotilla that they go through Egypt, precisely to avoid violence.
One can only hope these 6 congressmen do a better job of defending the security of the US than they do of Israel.
But I wouldn't bet on it.
Technorati Tag: Israel and Gaza Flotilla.

One has to guess that Kucinich, other than being patently insane is merely angling for a post Congressional job with one of the more hardcore ideological Islamic tyrannies in the region.
Oh, I don't know about that.
I doubt that Kucinich has patented Congressional insanity.
