Abbas Regime Needs A Distraction: Let's Go To The UN!

Khaled Abu Toameh writes about Abbas's latest distraction from his consistent refusal to negotiate with Israel, which explains Why Abbas Wants to Go Back to the UN in September.

Of course Abbas will want to divert attention from his other failures as well.

After all, the well known incompetence and corruption of the Palestinian Authority led not only to the rise to power of the terrorist group Hamas, but also to Abbas's attempt to deny them power -- which led to the current division between Gaza and the West Bank.

Palestinian Arabs are becoming more aware of Abbas's mismanagement -- which makes his attempt to get UN recognition of a state all the more absurd.

As Toameh notes:
Abbas's planned visit to New York coincides with a report published last week by the World Bank, disclosing that, because of the Palestinians' heavy reliance on foreign aid, the Palestinian economy's recent growth is unsustainable. His renewed efforts to achieve UN recognition also coincide with what Palestinian officials describe as the worst financial crisis facing the government of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

After wasting billions in financial capital on the Abbas regime, we will soon be witness to political capital being wasted on Abbas and his cronies as well.
