Hamas And Fatah: See You In September?

Have a good time but remember
There is danger in the summer moon above
Will I see you in September
Or lose you to a summer love
(counting the days 'til I'll be with you)
(counting the hours and the minutes, too)
See You In September, by The Happenings

It looks like the on again/off again romance between Hamas and Fatah is back on:
Palestinians said on Tuesday they were ready to form a unity government and expected to unveil its new cabinet at a meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal in Cairo next week.

Leaders from the two factions met for several hours in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss forming the new government agreed under a reconciliation deal reached in April.

"The prime minister's name and that of the ministers will be announced before the people on Tuesday (next week)," Hamas's deputy politburo head Mousa Abu Marzook, told Reuters in an interview.

Earlier on Monday, a Palestinian negotiator said that talks between Hamas and Fatah in Cairo had broken off until next week without an agreement over a new Palestinian prime minister. [emphasis added]
The key, of course, is whether these two can stay united until September, which is when presumably the Palestinian Arabs will ask the UN to recognize to not only recognize the Palestinian state, but also accept it as a member of the UN.

That state would presumably include not only the Arabs living in the West Bank, but also the Arabs living in Gaza as well. Of course, with the prospects of membership dimming and word that the Arabs might now be looking for a way to gracefully back out of their threat to go to the UN--who knows what the situation will be in September.

And if there is no prospect of going to the UN in September, what will Hamas and Fatah do with their unity government?

Assuming they don't kill each other first.

  1. One shouldn't be surprised if they throw each off the roof-tops after September. There is no love lost between the two chief Palestinian Arab terrorist factions. They can't even agree on which one of them should be in charge and to solve that just give them a state?

    Dream on!
