PELOSI'S FATHER WAS A FRIEND OF ISRAEL: In sidebar to an article in Mishpacha Magazine (Issue 155 4/25/07 p13), Kalman Gordon writes:
There is much irony at play in the fact that the Speaker met and then shook the hand of Assad who, along with Iran, currently funds terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hizbullah, dedicated to Israel's destruction

One such irony is that Pelosi's father, former congressman Thomas d'Alessandro, was one of the few Democrats to pressure President Roosevelt t rescue Jews during the Holocaust and laster strongly supported the creation of the State of Israel. In contrast Assad's father was widely believed to have given sanctuary for decades to several Nazi war criminals, including Alois Brunner.

Pelosi will go down in history as a hero to the jews and israel.
Unlike condi rice, who will be remebered for her love fest with abbas.

  2. Maybe so--but she will first have to do something for the Jews and Israel.

Something she has failed to do so far.

She put issues on the forefront that would have remained backburner issues under bush/rice failed diplomacy.

Who in the world even remebered the name Eli Cohen before she said his name to Assad?

She has done a great thing.

  4. Just what issues are now on the front burner?

Obtaining peace in Lebanon by going through the country that occupied its land and assassinated its leaders?

The highlight of Pelosi's trip was her making claims discredited by Israel.

Even assuming that Eli Cohen is now a household name mentioned across the entire media, it is irrelevant to the real issues.

"The highlight of Pelosi's trip was her making claims discredited by Israel."

No, that was just what the media chose to highlight.

And i would hardly think to say that it is irrelevant to real issues. Would you say that in front of his parents?
Or the parents of Ron Arad and Zachary Baumel? American Citizen baumel? Who the bushies continue to ignore?

She put it on the front burner as a serious issue for american-israeli-syrian relations. She did something Rice didnt. She told assad we mean business. She told assad we care about this and it aint gonna go away. How long before Shalit becomes as forgotten as cohen?
Pelosi sat in israel individually with all of the MIA parents, while Rice routinely goes there to give hugs to Abbas...and accomplishes what exactly? stuffing a failed roadmap down olmert's throat to save her boss a last minute middle east legacy other than the mess he made?

  6. Pelosi put absolutely nothing on the front burner. Posing in front of the cameras is not putting something on the front burner.

The actual test of putting something on the front burner is:

    1. Has it been picked up by the media.
    2. Has the Democratic Party as a whole picked up on this.
    3. Has Assad done anything in response.
    4. Has Pelosi made the important step of following up.

In the absence of this, all Pelosi has done is played politics.

I'm willing to give her more time, but the original assessment by the usually left-leaning media is that Pelosi played politics--and did a bad job at that.
