FATAH AND HUMPTY DUMPTY: While Olmert proceeds to release Fatah terrorists to (again) strengthen Fatah, Mark Steyn notes--in the context of the 'revelation' that Arafat died of aids:

For the rest of us, if you needed one more reason why the west's Humpty Dumpty strategy of putting Fatah together again is never going to work, this is it. To the Foreign Minister of Spain, Arafat is one of the towering figures of the last century. To the Palestinians, he's a fraud. On this, they're right. Hamas is ugly but real, Fatah is marginally less ugly but over.

Even putting aside the argument that the strengthening of Fatah by the US and Israel merely makes Fatah look like their pawn and only makes them and Abbas look weaker--the fact remains that on their own Fatah has continued to lose the trust of their own people.
