Fatah plans to wait until after the Washington DC Olmert-Abbas-Bush conference in November – and then reconcile with Hamas. But apparently the reconciliation is not a statement of intent:
"I believe the dialogue between the two movements is a certain choice, but I think it will be delayed until after the conference in the fall," Fatah central command member Kadora Fares was quoted by Haaretz as saying.
Fares later qualified his statement as more of a threat: If Israel did not make enough concessions, Fatah would choose the path of Hamas." But if a breakthrough is achieved, then Hamas has to revise itself and be more realistic in dealing with the political development,” he said. How convenient. As things stand now, Abbas cannot be held responsible for the rockets being fired at Israel from Gaza--so there is a limit to what Israel can demand from Abbas, and of course no end to what Abbas will demand from Israel. After further concessions in November, Abbas can reconcile with his fellow terrorists and share whatever Israel hands over.
But Kadora Fares makes clear what by now should be obvious: Abbas and the Palestinian Arabs have no interest in peace and negotiations; all they are interested is continued concessions from Israel.
Forget the Arab countries who claim they will not attend.
There is no reason for Israel to be there.
