Rice on possible IDF Iran strike: U.S. has no veto over Israeli military opsAfter all the pressure and threats on Israel to make concessions to Abbas, now Rice takes the attitude that Israel is a sovereign country that has to look after its own interests and security.
United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Thursday refrained from saying the U.S. would prevent Israel from mounting a much-touted attack against Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear aspirations.
"We don't say yes or no to Israeli military operations. Israel is a sovereign country," Rice said in an interview with Yahoo! News. [emphasis added]
Is that because Rice is unconcerned because she knows that Israel has no intention of striking at Iran's nuclear power plants?
Exit question: why did Rice choose to refer to Israel particularly as a "sovereign country"? Which definition of 'sovereign' did she have in mind. Was it...this one:
2. A nation that governs territory outside its borders. Is Rice making a statement?
Technorati Tag: Israel.
