On the issue of incitement, Abbas accepted that there was some incitement in official Palestinian media, according to meeting participants. However, he expressed frustration that Israel did not recognize his efforts to end incitement in the mosques, saying he was the only Arab leader to centralize Friday sermons and to remove imams who incited against Israel.Jerusalem Post, June 10, 2010
Here is a video of Mahmoud Habbash, the Palestinian Authority Minister of Religious Affairs, threatening war over Jerusalem--with Abbas in the audience.
There is nothing peaceful about what Habbas says:
Jerusalem is not just a city. Al-Aqsa is not just a mosque. Jerusalem is the key to peace, and Jerusalem can ignite a thousand and one wars. Unless the issue of Jerusalem is solved, so that it returns to its owners, unless Jerusalem will be Palestinian, as it was throughout history, the capital of the Palestinian state and the capital of the Palestinian people, the place which is the object of heartfelt longing. and which all Muslims aspire to reach; unless Jerusalem is that way, there is no peace. There is no peace without Jerusalem. There is no stability without Jerusalem. If Jerusalem is dishonored, if Jerusalem is disgraced, if [Jerusalem] is lost, it may leave the door open to all possibilities of struggle, all possibilities of war. The term 'war' cannot be erased from the lexicon of this region. as long as Jerusalem is occupied, as long as Jerusalem is disgraced, as long as the residents of Jerusalem are being targeted. It's not possible; Jerusalem has to return to its owners. And we are its owners.Habbash at no point makes any mention of East Jerusalem; he makes no mention of sharing Jerusalem with the Jews. He is talking about all of Jerusalem--and the only way to 'solve' the issue of Jerusalem is for Israel to concede it to the Arabs.
Can we expect the State Departments Philip Crowley to make a statement condemning the incitement of Habbash's speech?
Maybe the reason you never hear anyone in the Obama administration publicly condemn Palestinian incitement of hate against Israel is that there is just so much of it.
The reports I referred to in another post would tend to back up that theory.
