Burning The Koran, Burning The Talmud

The idea of burning the Koran on September 11, among other things, brings to mind the fact that the Koran is not the first book of another religion burned by a representative of the Church. If I was Terry Jones, I would be hesitant to remind people of that chapter from the history of Christianity when the Church burned the Talmud, a central text of Jewish learning.

Here is an excerpt from The Jew in the Medieval World: A Source Book, by Jacob Rader Marcus and Marc Saperstein (as found on Google Books). After giving the historical background, they give the source material.

So the question remains whether Jones wants to conjure up memories of Christianity's darker side.

  3. Oh, you mean Terry Jones? I listened to the audio from that call-in radio show--the host suggested it and Jones went along with it absent-mindedly.

I don't even know if he realized what he was agreeing to, and I am not impressed by the claim.

It's not as if he himself came up with the idea.
