In late May of 2010, Wellesley, Massachusetts public middle school students took a field trip to the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center - a controversial Saudi-funded mega-mosque run by the Muslim American Society of Bostn. There, the students were separated by gender and the boys were asked to join the Muslim adults in their prayer. Several of the public school boys took part.
The school has since apologized for the incident:
Wellesley School Superintendent Bella Wong has issued an apology for the incident, in which she stated as follows. The video was made by Americans for Peace and Tolerance--see their website here.
"It was not the intent for students to be able to participate in any of the religious practices," Wong said. “The fact that any students were allowed to do so in this case was an error."
