A suicide attack has killed at least 38 people and wounded more than 60 others near a mosque in the southeastern Iranian city of Chabahar as Shias marked the climax of Ashoura. You can add this to the list of recent mosque attacks by Muslims:
The ritual commemorates the seventh century death of Prophet Mohammed's grandson, Hussein.
...The area where the attack took place is home to an armed Sunni group, Jundallah, or Soldiers of God, which has waged sporadic attacks to fight alleged discrimination against the area's Sunni minority in overwhelmingly Shia Iran.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the use of multiple suicide attackers to target Shia worshippers is a tactic the group has employed in the past.
- There's the mosque burned during the arson attack on the Crazy Water Park in Gaza as reported by The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
- There is the mosque in Lebanon, burned down during a confrontation in August between Hezbollah and Al Ahbash
- There's the Turkish general who admitted he ordered the burning of a mosque as part of psychological warfare operations in 1974.
- In Afghanistan, The Taliban murdered the head of Kunduz province, along with 14 other people, in a mosque bombing in Tahkar. The governor had been outspoken in his opposition to the Taliban and allied terror groups operating in the north.
And what does it say about how other religions--and their structures--are viewed?
