State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley himself explained the US had given permission to the PLO mission to fly the 'Palestinian' flag--despite no change in status:
given the improvement in the relations between the United States and Palestinians.Of course it's nice to know that the Palestinians have improved relations with somebody, but what in the world does that mean?
Improved relations imply that there is some kind of give-and-take or support--so what signifies these new improved relations between the US and the PLO?
- Is it Abbas's refusal to come to the negotiating and support the US attempt to negotiate a Middle East peace agreement?
- Is there something Abbas has done for the US in return for the fact that the US provided the PA with $500.9 million in 2009 and, before Clinton's announcement, was scheduled to provide it with $550 million in 2011.
- Did Abbas do something for the US in return for the fact that in October, Obama waived Section 7040(a) of the Foreign Assistance Act to transfer extra funds to the Palestinian Authority, while Abbas was refusing to negotiate.
- Has Abbas apologized for the fact that Arafat ordered the murder of U.S. Ambassador to Sudan Cleo Noel Jr. and a foreign diplomat in 1973.
