Book For Kids: "How To Build Your Own Country"--Hey Abbas, Are You Listening?

My 11 year old daughter has this book and is already holding elections for president--running against her 3 year old brother in a tight race.

Someone should really get a copy to Abbas as soon as possible and the best part of this book is that it does not require you to go to the UN!

According to the Amazon.com description of "How to Build Your Own Country":

How to Build Your Own Country is an interactive and totally original learning experience that shows kids how to build their very own country from scratch. This book, the only one of its kind, offers children the expertise and advice they'll need to plant their flag in the backyard, in the bedroom or online. Kids will be amazed to discover that anyone can do it. Nation-building advice is peppered with examples of events that have shaped countries throughout history, teaching young readers about government, elections, geography and global issues. Backed up with lots of amazing examples of real micronations - some established or ruled by kids - How to Build Your Own Country promises to inspire, entertain and inform young nation-builders. Want to build your very own country from scratch? It's easy: Step 1: Stake Out Your Identity ... with a flag, money and a national anthem. Learn how to put your country's name on the map. Step 2: Run the Country ... with a government, constitution, laws and an economy. Step 3: Meet the Neighbors ? and join other nations on the big issues that face the whole world, such as poverty, global warming, security and international aid. How To Build Your Own Country is part of CitizenKid: A collection of books that inform children about the world and inspire them to be better global citizens.
Seems easy enough. Let's see:
  • Step 1 requires...money. Oops! That could be a problem. The Palestinian cannot afford to pay salaries, in part because the Palestinian Authoristy uses the funds it receives to pay off terrorists in prison. Doesn't make much sense to create a country that will be bankrupt from the outset, does it?

  • Step 2: Run the country Oops again! The Palestinian Authority has shown itself to be both corrupt and incompetent--and the one person who supposedly knows what he is doing--Prime Minister Salam Fayyad--is also being accused of nepotism and and is being blocked by Hamas from holding any position in a unity government.
And if my daughter can arrange an election, surely the Abbas Palestinian Authority can manage that.

  • Step 3: Meet the neighbors Can't Abbas and the Palestinian Authority get anything right!? They are inciting hatred against Israel on a regular basis--not very neighborly at all.
On the positive side, they are experts on poverty, despite the opening of checkpoints and know all about international aid
I think Abbas really should hold off on getting recognition for a second Palestinian state until he gets his house in order and really figures out what he's doing

I'll ask my daughter if she would help.
