Oh Look: Now There's No More Daylight Between Obama And Israel!

At least that is what Democratic National Chair Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz appears to be saying. Back in February, Wasserman Schultz claimed Democrat support of Israel was just as strong as that of Republicans:
There is just no daylight between both parties’ support for Israel. The Republicans…are unfortunately working overtime to create the perception that they are the more pro-Israel body…

What the Republicans are doing is dangerous. They are using Israel as a political football…. Israel’s ambassador [to the United States], Michael Oren, has said this. If there is any perception of daylight between the parties on support for Israel, that strengthens Israel’s enemies. The president rejects what some Republican candidates have been saying, that America should review all its foreign aid commitments from zero, making each country justify the support it receives.
There's that 'D' word -- "daylight".

Wasserman Schultz equates Democratic lack of daylight with the Republicans with the lack of daylight, and close support, the Democratic Party has with Israel.

The last time that word "daylight" was used in connection with support for Israel, it was by Obama -- and he was definitely not bragging about how strongly he supported Israel.

In fact, back in 2009, Obama spoke about the need for daylight between the US and Israel:
“Look at the past eight years,” he [Obama] said, referring to the George W. Bush administration’s relationship with Israel. “During those eight years, there was no space between us and Israel, and what did we get from that? When there is no daylight, Israel just sits on the sidelines, and that erodes our credibility with the Arab states.”
So in July 2009, Obama was saying that there has to be daylight between the US and Israel, otherwise, the closeness with Israel "erodes our credibility with the Arab states"

Now in 2012, with all thoughts on the November election, Wasserman Schultz declares there is no daylight with Israel, and that any perception of daylight does not increase our credibility with the Arab world--rather it "strengthens Israel’s enemies".

So while we can expect the Obama campaign to brag about the largest ever joint military exercise between the US and Israel in October, we should not forget that when push came to shove, Obama allowed Israel to be excluded on 2 separate occasions from Global Counterterrorism Forums in Istanbul and Spain, apparently to placate the Arabs.

So when Wasserman Schultz does her job and claims that there is no daylight between Democrats and Republicans on Israel--review the video of Obama's record on Israel to remind yourself of the truth.
