On Anniversary of Argentinian Bombing, Israelis In Bulgaria Targeted By Terrorists Again (3 Updates)

We deem it proven that the decision to carry out an attack July 18, 1994 on the AMIA (the Argentine Jewish Mutual Association, a Jewish charities association headquarters in Buenos Aires) was made by the highest authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran which directed Hezbollah to carry out the attack
Argentine chief prosecutor Alberto Nisman, quoted in Long War Journal, US designates two Hezbollah operatives in Venezuela as terrorists

Now, eighteen years later, there has been another terrorist attack bombing--this time in Bulgaria, even as relatives of the victims of the Argentinian terrorist attack still demand justice.

Are Iran and Hezbollah responsible for today's terrorist bombing attack in Bulgaria as well.
It does seem so.

Just 3 days ago there was a Hezbollah operative arrested in Cyprus allegedly planning attacks on Israelis:
The man was found with information on tour buses carrying Israeli passengers, a list of places in Cyprus favored by Israeli tourists and flight information of Israeli airlines that land in Cyprus, the Greek newspaper Phileleftheros reported, suggesting that he planned to detonate explosions on a plane or bus. [hat tip: LB]
Todays attack in Bulgaria comes on the heel of two recent meetings of the Global Counterterrorism Forum--but in both cases, Obama has allowed Israel to be excluded on 2 separate occasions from Global Counterterrorism Forums in Istanbul and Spain, apparently to placate the Arabs.

Just today, it was reported that the relatives are still demanding justice for the Argentinian attack--18 years later.

What will happen this time?
  • Will there be an efficient investigation?
  • If it is proven that Iran and Hezbollah are responsible again for terrorism, will they be prosecuted?
  • Will Israel, as both a victim and a leading opponent of terrorism, finally be invited to the Forum?
We can only wait and see, as the details of the terrorist bombing in Bulgaria are still emerging. There are 7 known fatalities so far.

UPDATE I: Where is the UN!?
Marc Leibowitz tweets:
#Israeli‬ tourists killed in ‪#Bulgaria‬ & the @UN has nothing to say. No condemnation. Website, Twitter feed, Nothing. ‪#Israel‬ ‪#UN‬ ‪#Terrorism‬
UPDATE II: Hat tip to Boker Tov, Boulder, who notes that back in January an Iranian terrorist cell was uncovered in Azerbaijan. Challah Hu Akbar, writing at Israellycool wrote that Iran Linked Terror Cell Exposed in Azerbaijan, Targeted Israelis and Jews. He quotes Haaretz:
Three men were detained last week after planning to attack two Israelis employed by a Jewish school in Baku, the Azerbaijan Ministry of National Security has revealed. Meanwhile, an Azeri commentator considered close to the republic’s president has launched a scathing indictment of Iran.

The Azeri ministry said it had arrested a cell that planned to “kill public activists,” before it became apparent that the intended victims were two Israeli Chabad emissaries, a rabbi and a teacher employed by the “Chabad Or Avner” Jewish school in Baku. The ministry said that the three men, named as Rasim Aliyev, Ali Huseynov and Balaqardash Dadashov, received smuggled arms and equipment from Iranian agents.
UPDATE: Legal Insurrection points out that this is not the first terrorist bus bombing attempted in Bulgaria against Israelis. He links to an article in the Jerusalem Post on the January bombing in Bulgaria:
A suspicious package found last week on a bus carrying Israeli tourists from Turkey to Bulgaria was the cause for Israel’s request to boost security over its citizens traveling in the country, according to reports in the Bulgarian press.

...Israel is concerned Hezbollah will try to attack Israelis overseas in the coming weeks and ahead of the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah military commander Imad Mughniyeh, attributed to the Mossad.

  1. It's really become time for payback in kind. Draw whatever you like from that.
