If J Street Is Really Pro-Israel, Why Does It Support Lois Capps?

J Street, which bills itself as "J Street The political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans" has a list of 66 congressional candidates that it is endorsing.

And they all have one thing in common.

They happen to all be Democrats.

Of course, J Street would have you believe that all of the candidates they back are pro-Israel.

For instance:
Rep. Lois Capps is running for her sixth term representing this Coastal California district in Congress. Trained as a nurse, Rep. Capps serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, sits on the Subcommittee on Health and is expected to face a competitive re-election contest in this newly re-drawn district that includes much of Santa Barbara. One of JStreetPAC’s earliest endorsees, Rep. Capps has been a public champion of pro-Israel/pro-peace issues since being elected to Congress in 1998. As she has stated: “The vision the President has set forth for two states for two peoples reflects longstanding efforts by the U.S. over several Administrations and is the only viable way to move forward and achieve these critically important goals.”
But is Lois Capps really pro-Israel?

The Emergency Committee for Israel reveals some facts about Lois Capps's record that J Street forgot to tell you.

In fact ECI has released an ad about Lois Capps:
Today the Emergency Committee for Israel released "What's Wrong," a 30-second TV ad that highlights Rep. Lois Capps' troubling foreign policy record. The spot will air hundreds of times over the coming weeks on cable and broadcast television in Capps' district, which includes Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Luis Obispo counties.

Capps has been consistently hostile to the U.S.-Israel alliance. She has accused Israel of war crimes, befriended the radical Islamic group CAIR, refused to sign bipartisan letters of support for Israel, and supported the libelous Goldstone Report.

ECI's executive director Noah Pollak said: "If there is a member of Congress whose foreign policy record is more extreme than Lois Capps', I can't think of one. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated an inability to distinguish between America's friends and enemies and has repeatedly attacked America's closest ally in the Middle East -- Israel."
Here is the ad:

So:

  • Lois Capps has accused Israel of war crimes
  • Lois Capps supports the radical Islamist group CAIR
  • Lois Capps has refused to join in bipartisan support of Israel
  • Lois Capps has supported the one-sided Goldstone Report, which even the judge for which it was named has backed off from supporting

And this is the kind of person J Street praises as "a public champion of pro-Israel/pro-peace issues"?

Kind of gives you an idea of what J Street is really all about.
