Governments' Funding of Anti-Israel NGOs Abets Church of Scotland Attack on Judaism

Jerusalem - The Church of Scotland's latest report, The Inheritance of Abraham? A Report on the "Promised Land," rejects the connection of the Jewish People to the Land of Israel and is strongly influenced by Sabeel, the radical Palestinian-Christian organization. Sabeel's funding comes partly from the governments of the Netherlands, Sweden and Canada via third party Christian aid groups, NGO Monitor said today.

The Church of Scotland's report also erases Christian "guilt" over "centuries of anti-Semitism" and contests the usage of the Holocaust as a basis of support for Israel.

Later this month the Church's General Assembly will decide whether or not to adopt the document.

NGO Monitor notes that the Church of Scotland "partners" with Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, the Jerusalem-based Palestinian Christian NGO. Sabeel is a major actor in the effort to convince Christian churches worldwide to support anti-Israel boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS). Sabeel officials are quoted prominently in the Scottish report.

"Sabeel promotes both 'Palestinian liberation theology' and 'replacement theology,' a belief that the Jewish people have forfeited its status as the people of God, themes that dominate the Church of Scotland's report," said NGO President Prof. Gerald Steinberg. "It is very disturbing that some 'enlightened' nations financially support Sabeel's beliefs that repudiate Jewish peoplehood and self-determination as well as Sabeel's anti-Israel program of boycott, divestment and sanctions."

NGO Monitor is updating a major report on the funding of Christian aid programs active in the delegitimization campaign against Israel. Steinberg said, "The findings of the study shows how European taxpayers' money goes to fund radically anti-Israel organizations cloaked in the garb of and beneath the halo of religion."
