PA Leadership Demands To Be Babied

With Obama agreeing on the need for Abbas and Netanyahu to actually negotiate face-to-face, the PA's fallback position is that if there has to be direct talks, then somebody else must be there to hold their hand:
[Foreign Minister Riyad Al] Maliki criticised the international community saying it had "pushed us -- Palestinians and Israelis -- to talk in a room and closed the room."
The "occupier and occupied" sitting together in the same room "can't be the best atmosphere, a conducive atmosphere for any kind of positive outcome. There is no parity at all," the minister said.

"We, the Palestinians, we do need a third party presence," he continued.

"Not only to sit and to watch us, but to intervene, to be a catalyst, in order to help bridging the gaps, the positions between the two sides, building proposals, and really helping the two sides moving in the right direction," Maliki said.
That line about "The "occupier and occupied" sitting together in the same room "can't be the best atmosphere, a conducive atmosphere for any kind of positive outcome" of course ignores the fact that the idea of Palestinian terrorists sitting together with their victims in the same room does not seem to bother Maliki at all.

We are talking about the same Abbas who was the right hand man to Arafat, who--before being kicked out of Gaza by Hamas in a bloody coup--refused to stop the rockets being fired at Israel, and recently eulogized the man behind the Munich Massacre (who wrote in his memoirs that Abbas helped finance it).

The reason why it is called "land for peace" is simple:
The Palestinian Authority wants only land.
Israel is the one that wants peace.

  1. Its not really an equal negotiation. The Palestinians are not prepared to compromise.

They do the taking and Israel does all the giving.

That's the way things have been since 1993 and there is no reason to expect them to change in the foreseeable future.
