Gee, I Didn't Even Know The West Bank HAD A Political System

"Why are we pretending that there is a viable diplomatic process? You have got no parliament, you have got a PLO that is dead, and you have got a president whose term is expired. He has no authority to negotiate this agreement and certainly to implement it, even if he had the authority to negotiate it. What you have got to do is fix the Palestinian political system first."
Nathan Brown, professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University

  2. The Palestinian Arab leaders are afraid of their own people. Negotiating with them is a waste of time.

They can't compromise because they don't have a mandate to do it and they can't deliver because they could never sell a peace deal at home.

Why bother going through the motions? There is no peace partner on the other side.
