The first American Muslim in the U.S. Congress called on Jewish groups to engage with a controversial American Muslim body."If CAIR is willing to talk"?--apparently Ellison has his doubts as well.
"If CAIR is willing to talk, talk to CAIR," Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said of the Council on American Islamic Relations in his address Tuesday to the Reform Movement's Consultation on Conscience conference in Washington. Ellison was answering a question; most of the speech focused on his positive impressions of Israel and the Palestinian areas during a recent tour.
This might not be such a bad idea--as soon as CAIR condemns Muslim terrorist groups--such as Hamas and Hizbullah--by name.
But Joel Mowbray wrote in September last year:
Although CAIR has repeatedly condemned “terrorism,” it has pointedly refused invitations to do so by naming specific Islamic terrorist organizations. In November 2001, the Washington Post asked a CAIR spokesman to condemn Hamas or Islamic Jihad. He refused, explaining, “It’s not our job to go around denouncing.” Given a similar opportunity to denounce Hamas and Hezbollah by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in February 2002, CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper called such queries a “game,” and added, “We’re not in the business of condemning.”Mr. Hooper is too modest by far.

Rep. Ellison is working with peers of all types. He recently signed on with Rep. Walberg of Michigan to amend immigration laws for Liberians. A great issue. It's nice to see Ellison can overlook Walberg's published comments on the Middle East:
"I think in the near future, yeah, you are going to see
somewhat of a squirrelly democracy. When you think also that it is
Muslim, and their religious ethic is far different than from what we
have established as Judeo-Christian ethic. To think that Islam can
even understand democracy is a stretch."

Maybe Rep. Ellison can show Walberg what Muslims are capable of understanding.
Powerline has posted extensively about Keith Ellison, including this post which raises issue that have been ignored and brushed aside instead of being addressed.
I imagine Rep. Wahlberg can also be credited with overlooking some of the things Ellison too has said and done, including
Ellison's involvement with the Nation of Islam includes his support of "the truth" of Joanne Jackson's condemnation of Jews in 1997 as "the most racist white people."
It works both ways.
