Not Pretty

Really ugly, if truth be told.  That's the situation in Migron.  The High Court released its decision yesterday:

The residents -- all of them, including the 17 who re-purchased the land on which their homes are sitting -- must be evacuated by next Tuesday.  By September 11, all buildings must be razed except for those on the plot of land that had been re-purchased.

As this is written, nothing has transpired yet in Migron.  Nor has the Court delivered a finding on the matter.

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, before going to the Non-Affiliated Movement conference in Iran, gave a press conference.  Not referring to Israel directly but clearly alluding to Israel, he said:

"Egypt is practicing its very normal role on its soil and does not threaten anyone and there should not be any kind of international or regional concerns at all from the presence of Egyptian security forces."

The military campaign, he declared, was in "full respect to international treaties."

The Handle on Sinai

I had hoped -- deeply hoped -- to be able to turn my attention to matters other than the situation in the Sinai.  But the news there has loomed so large and seemed so ominous, that it merits on-going attention.  And so, once again, I begin with this subject.

Where Are We Going?

As is often the case before Shabbat, this post will be brief -- primarily a follow-up on the Sinai situation that I have been watching to the best of my ability.

From Egyptian security agents has come the information that Cairo is asking Israel to hold off on demands regarding deployment of troops and introduction of tanks into the Sinai:

The focus is on the situation in the Sinai:

Amos Gilad, head of the Political Diplomatic Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, said yesterday that Israel is in constant contact with the Egyptians and that we are being heard.
