The Latest Scandal: Jimmy Carter and the Cat

Emptyage has posted a photo of a letter Jimmy Carter wrote on May 13, 1990. The letter is in a private collection in Eufaula, Alabama, and is addressed to Carter's sister-in-law Sybil Carter, Billy’s widow.

To Sybil,

Lamentably, I killed your cat while trying just to sting it. It was crouched, as usual, under one of our bird feeders & I fired from some distance with bird shot. It may ease your grief somewhat to know that the cat was buried properly with a prayer & that I’ll be glad to get you another of your choice.

I called & came by your house several times. We will be in the Dominican Republic until Thursday. I’ll see you then.

“…crouched, as usual, under one of our bird feeders…” How typical: He’s blaming his victim.

I just want to know — why on earth was he trying to “sting” the cat with a shotgun? Bird shot isn’t BBs — it’s meant to kill birds.

Notice also that he buried the evidence of his crime as quickly as he could.

Too bad Carter shows more concern for defending some birds from a cat than for Israeli civilians suffering rockets fired by terrorists.
