YouTube World View Comes to Israel--PM Netanyahu Will Answer Questions

YouTube World View comes to Israel

Will take global citizens' questions on a live stream interview
on Israel's Channel 2 and YouTube

Starting tomorrow (15.03.11), users can submit their questions
and get the Prime Minister’s answer on a live streaming on March 23rd

In the footsteps of President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, Benjamin Netanyahu is the third leader to participate in YouTube's World View Project, which invites local and international users to pose questions to Israel's Prime Minister on an interactive site that will go live tomorrow (Tuesday March 15th).

YouTube and Channel 2 News, which already collaborated on enabling the Internet debate between candidates for Prime Minister in the Israeli elections of 2009, are launching the project that allows users from all parts of the globe to communicate directly with Netanyahu.

The interview will be broadcast live on Israeli television and on YouTube. The webcast will last 40 minutes and will include an interview in Hebrew (aired simultaneously on YouTube and Channel 2) and in English (aired on YouTube).

Users are invited to direct questions on topics that matter to them to Mr. Netanyahu. The questions can cover international issues like revolutions taking place in the Middle East, the ramifications of Iran's nuclear armament, the peace talks with the Palestinians or topics related to Israeli society. The questions can be uploaded to the website by video, text or twitter (#AskNetanyahu).

Dana Weiss, a Channel 2 newsreader, was selected to facilitate the special broadcast that will go live on March 23rd at 19:30 Israel time. This is the first time that a live program broadcast in Israel will be aired concurrently on YouTube.

In the interview held with President Obama, users uploaded more than 140,000 questions. More than one million votes were recorded in the selection process of the questions for the live webcast. Some 10,000 questions were uploaded and more than 36,000 votes recorded for Mr. Cameron's interview.

In a video recorded specially for the launch of the project, Prime Minister Netanyahu said: “I invite Arab viewers and Palestinian viewers to have this exchange with us because i think we have to clear the air. I think people have to understand what an open, liberal, tolerant society Israel is and how much it desires peace.”

Riki Drori, VP Marketing for Google Israel and Regional Marketing Manager for South Africa and Greece, said, "We are thrilled to see YouTube becoming the virtual city square, letting people engage in direct, two-way dialogue with world leaders. We also take pride in the fact that the Israeli Prime Minister is adopting the YouTube platform to converse and answer questions posed by citizens of Israel and the entire world."
