Here is one of them, where the Palestinian Arabs painted a donkey as a symbol of Israel:
There was something about Palestinians and donkeys that jogged my memory.
Remember this?
That's pretty creative--and so is the reason given in the 2009 article why the Palestinian Arabs painted the donkeys as zebras:
Israel restricts the importing of animals into Gaza, so the Marah Land Zoo's keepers covered the pair of donkeys in black and white stripes instead..The reason why this is creative is that, as Israel Matzav notes, the zoo where these zebras died was actually booby trapped by Hamas during Operation Desert Storm--so that the zebras, instead of just dying, were likely 'martyred' by Hamas terrorists.
That brings to mind the odd Palestinian pastime of blowing up animals.
There was that time back in June 2009 when Palestinian terrorists blew up horses at the Karni cargo crossing in Gaza.
The most famous case was in January 2003 when a donkey was blown up by Palestinian terrorists in an attempt to kill Israelis--following which Arafat drew a mild rebuke from PETA
And there have been other cases of Palestinian Arabs blowing up donkeys as well. Tom Gross points other times that Palestinians blew up donkeys in order to kill Israelis:
For the record, obviously unknown to PETA, Palestinian groups have used bomb-laden donkeys in previous attacks:The 2 painted donkeys above got off easy.
* In the Gaza Strip in June 2001, a Palestinian drove a donkey cart laden with explosives toward a group of Israelis. At the last minute he jumped off the cart and detonated the bombs that exploded only partially. The cart had been loaded with four gas canisters, two mines, a bag of oil, and a bag of nails.
* In January 2001, terrorists left a donkey cart laden with explosives unattended near the Netzarim junction. Israeli soldiers fired at the cart, detonating the large amount of explosives and killing the donkey.
* In June 1995, a Palestinian suicide bomber detonated a donkey-led cart rigged with explosives near an IDF base near Khan Yunis. No soldiers were wounded in the blast, but the Palestinian and the donkey were killed.
In case you are curious, as I was, Shariah law is supposed to forbid the killing of animals unless they are to be used as food or if they attack you.
