Indications Iran Was Involved In Assassination of Rafik Hariri

Back in January, I wrote that The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) had concluded that Iran as well as Hezbullah were involved in Rafik Hariri's assassination.

Iran's involvement made sense since Hezbollah is Iran's puppet and is unlikely to have made such a move without Iran's approval.

Now Naharnet is reporting there is actual evidence of Iran's involvement in Hariri's murder:

The report said that there is evidence that link Iran with the murder of Hariri.

The four men named in the indictment issued by the STL are members of Hizbullah and the tribunal is “following evidence that lead to Iran.”

The magazine said that the four suspects traveled to Iran in 2004 and during their stay, they went through military training in “Khomeini’s training camp” near the city of Qom.

It added: “The training supervisors built sets similar to the crime scene” of Hariri’s murder.
Der Spiegel said that “al-Quds brigades” that is considered the revolutionary guards right hand, supervised the entire operation.
Not surprisingly, Hezbollah head Nasrallah has refused to hand over the 4 suspects.

Likewise, it is unlikely Iran will cooperate with any investigation, something that any amount of pressure will probably not affect.

Still, if the STL does come to the conclusion that Iran was involved, ideally it would affect Iran's standing in the UN--especially the UN Human Rights Council.

And who knows--maybe we would have to put up with Ahmadinejad's yearly visits to the UN.
