The unfortunate truth is that Lebanon is no longer an independent and Western-leaning state, but a terrorist stronghold supplied by Syria and subservient to Iran.
Michael Oren
I vaguely recall many years ago that terrorist leader Arafat pointed to Lebanon as the model of what Arabs and Jews could join together to become. Of course, as the years passed and the schism and animosity of the Christians and Arabs grew to the point that the Lebanon of old is only a memory--we do indeed see a reflection of what has developed between Israel and the Arabs who claim that all they want is to create a state.
Just as the US has ignored the ongoing incitement of hatred of Jews and Israel, as fostered by Abbas and the PA, the US has shown no understanding or appreciation of Israel's security needs.
While it is true that Obama--and Hillary Clinton--have repeatedly said they are concerned for and will protect Israel's security needs, it seems that the Obama administration sees the supply of weapons to Israel as the solution to that problem.
There appears to be no interest from the Obama administration in creating a peace that gives real credence to Israel's security needs in light of the actions of Abbas and the PA and the real threat of the corrupt and incompetent Arab rule turning their state into a terrorist state.
As Michael Oren further points out:
While committed to a two-state solution with the Palestinians, we cannot rely on international forces to guard the borders of a future Palestinian state. Only the Israel Defense Forces can prevent that state from becoming another Lebanon.
As it is, neither Abbas nor Fayyad are the actual President and Prime Minister, according to their own constitution. It unclear why Obama feels that in future years, any Israel-Arab agreements will be any more sacrosanct than they are now with Egypt.
Yet with all the problems and questions, all we hear from Obama is to push ahead and have peace talks--and prod Israel, which has agreed to the talks, while failing to mention that it is Abbas who is holding up the negotiations.
Obama's foreign policy record gives no hope that he truly appreciates the particular needs of the countries he deals with.
And Israel may be the most blatant example.

Of course he will. That's more or less been the plan or at least an acceptable side effect all along.
